Man who put dog in oven gets jail time, probation
SALEM, Ore. - A man who pleaded guilty to a shocking animal abuse crime will serve time in jail followed by a long probation period, a judge said Thursday.
Kevin Dean Parrish, 20, pleaded guilty to aggravated animal abuse charges on Wednesday after putting his grandmother's dog, a small Chihuahua-Pincher named Kudo, into an oven that was heated to 350 degrees.
Parrish (pictured at right) will serve 30 days in jail and then be placed on probation for five years, with restrictions on owning or having contact with animals during that period. He is scheduled to be released from jail on Feb. 16, after having been credited for time served since his arrest.
Parrish said he had heated the oven to cook some food but became angry at Kudo when the dog nipped at him. He admitted to investigators that he hit and strangled the dog before putting it in the oven.
Kudo was rescued by Parrish's brother and father. The dog was burned but is expected to make a full recovery.
Parrish, who had no prior criminal record, admitted to Marion County deputies that he has anger issues and snapped when dealing with the dog.
In light of several recent local high-profile animal abuse cases, Democratic Rep. Brad Witt has introduced a bill in Salem that would require animal abusers to register with Oregon State Police in the same way sex offenders are now required to register their location.
"Often times, what we see is people who abuse humans got started abusing animals," Witt said. "Certainly it's intolerable to be inflicting that kind of abuse pain and suffering on animals."
I hope he is not allowed to live in the same house with that dog or that the dog gets rehomed to safety.
As least he is being punished- if he were in Lane County he'd be back out on the streets...
requiring animal abusers to register like sex offenders must, might be a good idea especially for the sake of the next girl he dates.
I'd want my daughter to know before she agreed to go out with him...which would be never.
someone should strangle him and stuff him in an oven. I am completely disgusted with our court system here in Oregon the penalties are far to easy on the people that do the abuse. we cant put them in prison because there is no room so make the penalties so stiff that they are afraid to commit the offence that's a no brainer. want to stop poaching ? instead of fining someone $750 for poaching an elk fine him $10,000 and make them do a years worth of community service that will help the creatures they poached. wake up court system stiffer penalties are the only way to slow down the people commiting crimes since we can no longer afford to put them in jail

@Ah Shucks Not at my expense, I don't. I'd rather grab him by the back of the neck in one hand and take a cheese grater to his face with the other, myself. But that's just me.
