Attack victim searches for suspects

By Denae D'ArcyEUGENE, Ore. - Sean Barron looks pretty good to have been in such bad shape a year ago. The last thing he remembers is a parking garage and "basically waking up in the hospital." Barron was jumped by a group of five men last June in a Portland parking lot. His face was smashed, he was bleeding from his brain and both of his lungs collapsed. Police in Portland are trying to solve the crime by using a stub from a parking ticket left behind that night. The ticket had blood on it and detectives used that to extract DNA that will be run through the system to see if there's a match. Sean's getting ready to graduate and he'll take a $10,000 debt with him. But it's not from school loans. He's still paying for medical bills. "I suppose that's kind of a superficial thing considering i almost died," said Barron, "but that will be devastating to pay back that much money." Sean's insurance company seems to be against him. He was denied coverage because he was operated on at a hospital outside of his plan. "We've considered getting an attorney," he said. For now Sean's focus is justice. He has a plea for the two girls he believes witnessed the attack. He wants them to come forward and tell police what the attackers looked like. "Hopefully if they hear this story or know anything about it they'll do what's right," he said. "Step forward and bring these guys to justice." |
