The 200 acres along the topographic ridgeline is part of a 1,200 acre tract owned by Arlie & Company and divides the property, separating Lane Community College to the north from rural land to the south. The land consists of a mix of Douglas fir forest and high quality prairie and oak habitat and affords views of Spencer Butte, Mount Pisgah and the surrounding lands to the south and east. Arlie & Company donated $600,000 to be used to improve this newly acquired open space. “Once we realized the high level of community interest in extending the Ridgeline Trail through the property, we were excited to help make it happen,” said Suzanne Arlie, president of Arlie & Company. “We are thrilled to make this important addition to this treasured open area that is already heavily used by the community. Donating the funds to design and create the trail will ensure that it is improved and that hikers are able to enjoy this spectacular open space in the very near future.” “The acquisition of this section of the Ridgeline Trail brings the goal to link Mount Pisgah to Fern Ridge for hikers closer to fruition," said Terry Smith, board president of the Eugene Parks Foundation. "This is an incredibly important and exciting acquisition for the preservation of parkland in the Eugene /Springfield Metro area.” Arlie & Company, based in Eugene, Ore., is a family-owned real estate development and management company. Suzanne K. Arlie founded the company in 1991. Arlie & Company’s largest current project is Crescent Village, Eugene’s first planned urban village. Photographs courtesy City of Eugene |
