REEDSPORT, Ore. (AP) - Authorities say a police sergeant fatally shot a black bear that had been roaming a Reedsport neighborhood.

The Reedsport Police Department says it had been getting calls for a week from people who had spotted bears at all of hours of the day.

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife officials tried to trap the bears, but did not succeed.

The police sergeant shot the bear on the same day two residents called to report a bear in their yards.

Traps remained in place over the weekend to capture a second problem bear.
