2 injured in crash after tire blows, car rolls on I-5 north of Roseburg
ROSEBURG, Ore. - Two people went to the hospital after a tire blowout sent a car tumbling off Interstate 5 north of Roseburg on Thursday morning, fire crews at the scene told KPIC News.
Firefighters pulled a passenger from where she became trapped in the wreckage of the car after it rolled twice and came to rest on its side.
The passenger and the female driver were sent to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg. The driver had "significant injuries," according to firefighters.
A man in the backseat of the car was examined at the scene for bumps and bruises.
The victims told firefighters they heard a loud popping sound just before the car lost control and overturned around 9:30 a.m.
The car came to rest along the side of the northbound lanes.
The identities of the people involved are not yet available.

@kathylcv38 I have had it happen. In the 3rd lane going 65 and it is scary as h e l l ! Glad you are ok.
Hello to all! I am the mother of the driver in this accident. I first want to thank everyone who helped cut my child and her roommates out of the car! My daughter was doing the speed limit of 65 MPH; the tire was put on her vehicle on 04/07/2012! Just to kind of set things straight, the kids rolled at least 7 times. My husband and I are very thankful that there was a State Trooper behind them about a 1/8th of a mile that saw the whole accident and was right there after they stopped rolling! Now for an update on the kids, Our Daughter is head to toe bruised, she has about 10 lumps on her head and as I said bruised from head to toe. The front passenger suffered a broken shoulder and as my daughter bruised from head to toe. The rear passenger suffered bruised kidneys and as the others bruised from head to toe. Everyone was wearing their seatbelts and we are very thankful they survived! We are starting an investigation into why the tire failed. God Bless you all!
@Theorvs Thank you for the update...glad every one is for the most part ok...and glad you are going to get to the bottom of why that tire blew!
Can we get an update KVAL?
Well, it IS a freeway, and the speed is 65, (most areas of Oregon) so they probably were going the usual rate of everyone else on the freeway: 70 or so. A blowout will drastically affect your damage and cause a crash that appears to be due to higher than normal rates of speed. Blowouts arenât  caused by high speed, but rather damaged or defective tires, and worn tires.Â
@angelgabe Speed alone cane cause a blowout, but only at really excessive speeds. There's actually a speed rating in the tire code on the side of every tire. But yeah, that's a rare occurrence because it's rare for someone to be dumb enough to drive that fast. But even without that, speed can be a contributing factor. In heat related blowouts, the road temperature, vehicle speed and an under-inflation are causes of tire failure. It can also contribute to blowouts caused by structural defects, simply because higher speeds create more friction. Not that I'm saying the driver was speeding... there are a lot of things that cause blowouts.
@PleaseBeSmart @angelgabe You are correct there are many things that cause tire failures, but speed is one of the leading factors for serious injury. Time and again having driven the freeway at 65 MPH, I rarely pass anyone, but am being passed constantly. The faster one travels the more danger comes into the picture, with failures, closing rates, reaction times, and numerous other factors that cause accidents.Â
@souptonuts That's a good point. I've had blowouts and maintained pretty good control through them, but I wasn't going very fast at the time. I can't imagine having one at a high speed.Â
wonder how fast they were going that looks like a significant speed accident
