Motorcyclist hits dump truck
The road was closed for about an hour to investigate the accident. This is a press release courtesy of Oregon State Police A 34-year-old Prineville man was seriously injured Wednesday morning while riding his motorcycle in a two vehicle crash on O'neil Highway about 5 miles east of Redmond.
On Wednesday June 18, 2008 at approximately 7:40 a.m. a green 2007 Harley Davidson Motorcycle driven by Simon Delery, age 34, from Prineville was traveling westbound on O'neil Highway approaching Lone Pine Road when he struck a dump truck trailer within the westbound lane of travel.
At the time of the collision the 1998 Kenworth dump truck and trailer owned by Knife River Resources were negotiating a left turn onto Lone Pine Road from O'neil Highway. The dump truck had cleared the intersection and the rear trailer was in the process of negotiating the left turn, remaining within the intersection at the time of the collision.
The dump truck driver Taylor Ritches, 26, from Redmond, was reportedly wearing safety restraints and not injured at the time of the collision.
Delery received serious injuries resulting from the crash and was taken by air-ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. He was reportedly wearing a helmet.
O'neil Highway was shutdown for approximately an hour during the investigation.
Oregon State Police Trooper from the Prineville worksite responded to the scene and are investigating the crash. Members from the Crook County Sheriffs Office, Oregon Department of Transportation, and Deschutes County emergency personnel assisted at the crash scene. |
