Naked chicks protest fryer
EUGENE, Ore. - Wearing nothing but a banner that read "The Naked Truth: KFC Tortures Chickens" on the front and "Turn Your Back on KFC Cruelty" on the back, members of the People for Ethical Treatment of animals protested outside a Eugene restaurant on Friday.
The protestors object to how the restaurant's suppliers' raise chickens, claiming the animals are subject to abusive treatment in animal factories and slaughterhouses. The special interest group maintains a Web site critical of KFC.
"KFC stands for cruelty in our book," says PETA's Lindsay Rajt. "We're urging consumers to boycott KFC until the company stops these abuses."
Yum! brands, which owns the KFC brand in the United States, offers sections on its Web site regarding animal welfare and the supplier code of conduct.
"Our goal is to only deal with suppliers who provide an environment that is free from cruelty, abuse and neglect," the site says.
