ALBANY, Ore. -- A motorcyclist missed a curve and went off the road into a ditch Saturday evening. Ryan P. Schenck, 27, of Albany died at the scene.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a motor vehicle crash in the area of 34861 Riverside Drive in Albany at 6:29 p.m. which involved a single motorcycle.

Deputies arrived on scene with medics from the Albany Fire Department and found the operator and single occupant of a 2004 Honda motorcycle had died from his injuries.

Schenck had been riding with two friends, also on motorcycles, at a very high rate of speed, according to the sheriff's office. They were driving south on Riverside Drive, a posted 45 mph zone, when Schenck failed to negotiate a curve.  His motorcycle left the roadway after crossing over into the opposite lane of travel and continued along the ditch until it impacted with a driveway culvert.

Fisher Funeral Home transported the deceased pending further arrangements.

The crash is still under investigation.
