EUGENE, Ore. - The cause of a fire on the University of Oregon campus is under investigation.

Sprinklers in Esslinger Hall put out the flames around 6 p.m. Monday.

The fire prompted an evacuation of Esslinger and the adjacent student recreation center.

A fire chief at the scene said the fire appeared to have started in a trash can.
