Substitute teacher admits having sex with student
By KVAL Web StaffEUGENE, Ore. -- A substitute teacher pleaded guilty to having sex with a middle school student. The judge sentenced Sarah Jayne Bridges, 24, to five years probation and $1,000 in court assessments. Bridges pleaded guilty to rape in the third degree and sodomy in the third degree. The charges stem from sexual contact with a former student, now 15. Bridges was working as a substitute teacher in the Eugene School District when she first met the victim. She admitted to engaging in sexual intercourse and sodomy occurring on separate occasions. The judge ordered Bridges to undergo sex-offender treatment and refrain from having any contact with minors without the permission of her probation officer. She is also required to provide a DNA sample, register as a sex-offender and submit to polygraph examination upon the request of her probation officer. She was ordered to serve a total of 60 days in jail, a sentence likely to be reduced to fewer than ten days because of jail overcrowding, according to the district attorney's office. At sentencing the defendant expressed remorse for having violated the trust the victim's parents had placed in her, the DA's office said. |
