Fast-moving grass fire near The Dalles prompts closure of I-84
THE DALLES, Ore. (AP) - A fast-moving grass fire has prompted authorities to close a stretch of Interstate 84.
The fire started in the hills just northwest of The Dalles and spread rapidly because of the strong winds. It crossed old Highway 30 and Interstate 84, and is burning on unused property owned by the Port of The Dalles.
The Oregon State Police says reduced visibility led authorities to divert westbound traffic at The Dalles and eastbound traffic at Hood River.
