Woman killed in fatal wreck near Blachly
Oregon State Police released this photo of the scene of the fatal wreck near Blachly. This is a press release from the Oregon State Police: A Eugene woman died Saturday night in a two vehicle head-on crash on Highway 36 near Blachly. Three others were injured and Oregon State Police troopers are continuing the investigation. According to OSP Sergeant Ted Phillips, on July 19, 2008 at approximately 7:45 p.m., a 2004 Kia Spectra four-door driven by Cheryl MacNeil, 47, from Eugene, was westbound on Highway 36 near milepost 30 when an eastbound Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by Ricky Gunderson, age 21, from Eugene, crossed the centerline into the path of the Kia. Both vehicles collided head-on in the westbound lane. MacNeil was extricated from her car by fire personnel and transported by LifeFlight to Sacred Heart Hospital but she reportedly died enroute. A passenger in her car, Robert Rusley, age 42, from Junction City, was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Gunderson and passenger Matt Swanger, age 21, from Eugene, were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Safety restraint use information is not available. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Gunderson was driving with a suspended license. OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command office were assisted at the scene by members of the Lane County Sheriffs Office, ODOT, Lane Rural Fire Department, and the Lake Creek Rural Fire Department. |
