Willamette River rescue near Eugene
By Tom AdamsEUGENE, Ore. - Two people were rescued from the Willamette River Saturday evening between Eugene and Glenwood. They were heading around a low head damnext to Interstate 5 near Glenwood on a raft when they got stuck. Lane County Sheriff's Office deputies were able to bring them back to shore safely. Paul Vitus with the Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol said the area can be especially dangerous. "There is a low head dam just below here," he said. "There's a safe passage to the right of that called 'the horseshoe' that people should be doing. Low head dams will suck you back into the low head dam itself unless you know what you're doing." He said he wasn't sure if the two were wearing life jackets. Eugene fire department and Springfield department crews also responded to the water rescue. |
