SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Two drivers have gotten some expensive tickets for speeding over 100 miles per hour in front of the same Marion County sheriff's deputy.

Deputy Kevin Ely clocked one driver at 123 mph on Oregon 22 just west of Stayton. The second sped past him at 117 mph.

Ely stopped the first driver and got the license number of the second to track him down later.

Gavin Bonney, 21, of Lyons faces total fines of $6,103 while 18-year-old Joseph F. Smith of Salem was ticketed for $1,345.

The sheriff's office rejected Smith's excuse that he was just tailing Bonney to report him to police when they could find no record of any 911 call by Smith.
