SALEM, Ore. -- A house collapsed off a temporary foundation Thursday, forcing firefighters to cut through a window to help three people escape.

Four people were in the home at the time of the collapse. Only one had escaped by the time firefighters arrived around 10:18 p.m. Two were transported to Salem Hospital.

The house was in the process of having its foundation replaced when something gave way causing the house to tip off the temporary shoring.

Damage to the home was extensive.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) -- Three members of a Salem family were hurt when their 103-year-old house tipped over and collapsed in a mangled heap while they were settling down to go to sleep.

Officials said the accident occurred after the house had been raised off its foundation for construction of a basement addition.

Firefighters rushed to the scene Thursday night to rescue the home's occupants and shore up the tottering building.

Doug Ebanks sprained his ankle while his son Keaton sustained a bump on the head. Ebanks' wife Eileen remained in the hospital Friday with a back injury.
