EUGENE, Ore. - Police are investigating the shooting death of a 35-year-old Eugene man.

Police identified the victim as Lance McBride.

McBride's girlfriend reported finding him dead before 9 a.m., but investigators waited at the scene until 5 p.m. for a search warrant to enter the house because the rental property belongs to someone else, a deputy district attorney told a KVAL reporter.

Two neighbors told a reporter at the scene that they heard gunshots -- one neighbor heard two, one neighbor recalled four.

"There was two gun shots and at first I thought they were fireworks," neighbor Priscilla Maynard said.

"I heard a bam bam and then a hesitation," said Pat Ashburn, "and then a bam bam.

"Didn't hear any commotion, just the gunshots."

A MySpace page for a "Lance McBride, 35, Eugene, Ore. " shows a man and a woman. A KVAL TV reporter recognizes the woman from the scene.

Both of their MySpace pages indicate their relationship status as "engaged."

Two friends had left messages on McBride's page as of 4:30 p.m. that suggested the MySpace page's owner was the victim.

"Rest in peace, Lance. You are loved and missed dearly. You knew you had to make your last trip home to Memphis, and we are all so grateful that you did," a poster wrote at 2:57 p.m.

"I will never be connected to anyone the way I was with you. You were sent to me when I was mourning a huge loss and now I have to mourn you. You brought so much laughter to my life and became the little brother I never had. You will own a piece of my heart for the rest of my life and I know that we will meet again when my time here is done. I love you so much and miss you already. I pray that you are with the Lord and that you are at peace. I am so glad we had one last weekend together. I will never forget you," wrote another poster 1:12 p.m.

Police said McBridge's girlfriend returned home from work and found him dead at their home at 1100 Randall Street.

She reported the death at 8:49 Saturday morning.

Police issued a press release at 11:45 a.m. while investigators were still on the scene.
