PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The federal agency that helps coordinate drug enforcement in Oregon says illegal drug use in the state is higher than the national average.

The High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program is run by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.

The program released its annual threat assessment for Oregon on Thursday, saying methamphetamine and marijuana use remains a major problem.

The report also says marijuana production is increasing.

Officials say prescription drug abuse is the fastest-growing type of substance abuse in the nation.
