Crash on Hwy 22 injures six people

Six of ten people involved in a traffic crash Thursday morning on Highway 22 onto Grand Ronde Road were injured, including four seriously.

On August 28, 2008 at approximately 8:44 a.m. a Ford SUV driven by ALYSSA CUDMORE, age 21, from Dallas, was westbound on Highway 22 near Grand Ronde Road northwest of Grand Ronde when it began to pull onto the right shoulder near the intersection. As the Ford SUV got into the intersection, it turned to the left back onto the highway where it was struck from behind by a Ford pickup towing a trailer.

The Ford SUV was occupied by 7 workers for the U.S. Department of Natural Resources. CUDMORE was using safety restraints, evaluated at the scene by medical responders, and was not transported. The other occupants are identified as:

* Right front passenger ERIC GRETZON, age 18, from Grand Ronde., who was using safety restraints, evaluated at the scene, and not transported.

* Middle front passenger WINSTON MERCIER, age 18, from Grand Ronde, who was seated on the floor area between the two front bucket seat where there was no safety restraint. He was transported by ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center with serious injuries.

* Right rear passenger JOE WALDRON, age 19, from Dallas, was not using safety restraints and was ejected. He was transported by LifeFlight to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis with serious injuries.

* Middle rear passenger SHANNON GROSSE, age 17, from Willamina, was not using safety restraints and was transported to Willamette Valley Medical Center with serious injuries.

* Left rear passenger JENNIFER ROBERTSON, age 43, from Willamina, was not using safety restraints and transported to Salem Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

* Seated in rear cargo area was DOUGLAS GRAY, age 18, from Grand Ronde, where there were not seats or safety restraints. GRAY was ejected and transported by LifeFlight to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis with serious injuries.

The Ford pickup was occupied by three men. Driver JEFFREY BERNT, age 25; from Sherwood; right front passenger RONALD BERNT, age 51; and, right rear passenger JOSEPH BERNT, age 27, both from Dallas. They were wearing seatbelts and the vehicle's airbags deployed. They were evaluated by medical personnel at the scene and not transported.

Oregon State Police Troopers, assisted by the Yamhill County Multi Agency Traffic Team, are continuing the investigation. ODOT was on scene helping with traffic control. ODOT Motor Carrier Enforcement personnel, and the West Valley and Sheridan Fire Departments also assisted at the scene.
