Police pursue leads after woman gunned down
THURSTON, Ore. -- A woman was fatally shot in the Thurston area early this morning.
The Springfield Police Department confirm the shooting took place on the 5100 block of E Street shortly before 7 a.m. this morning.
Police are looking for a small sedan in connection with the shooting.
Rick Harrison, Springfield police captain, said investigators have not ruled out the possibility of a drive-by shooting.
One of the neighbors told KVAL that a passenger in the car returned fire, but that has not been confirmed by police.
A bullet hole is visible in the open door of the car next to the victim's body (in photo at right).
Officers have interviewed one person in connection wtih the shooting but are not naming any suspects.
A neighbor tells KVAL he heard five gunshots and lots of sirens before 7 a.m.
Two neighbors told KVAL they heard a car speeding off from the scene.
