Police identify shooting victim
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Police identified the woman found shot and killed in the street in east Springfield.
Officers found Wendy Jo Whitaker, 35, of Springfield dead inside her vehicle around 6:46 a.m. Wednesday morning, the victim of gunshot wounds.

Police told KVAL Whitaker lived on the street, although many neighbors said they didn't recognize her.
This is the second murder of the year in Springfield, Ore. So far this year, only one person has been murdered in neighboring Eugene, Ore.
Neighbors reported hearing five gun shots and a vehicle with a loud exhaust driving away from the scene. Others said someone with Whitaker returned fire.
