Grants Pass man sentenced to 12 years for stabbing
By Associated PressGRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) -- A Grants Pass man who pleaded guilty to assaulting his wife has been sentenced to a dozen years in prison. The authorities said 68-year-old Francis Oxley cut his wife's throat, back, hand and abdomen in March 2006. At the time of his arrest, Oxley told police he only wanted to maim his wife, not kill her. Oxley had been jailed for threatening his wife before the attack, but was released on his own recognizance and told to stay away from her. Instead, he bought knives, drove to their home and chased his wife down when she arrived. Defense attorney Carl Caplan says Oxley had been suffering from diminished mental capacity and obsessive-compulsive disorder at the time of the attack. Copyright 2008 The Associated Press. |
