Ducks beat UCLA; Joe Montana visits Autzen
By KVAL Web StaffEUGENE, Ore. -- Entering Saturday's game with the UCLA Bruins, the numbers weren't exactly in the University of Oregon Duck's favor.
Neuheisel made his first Autzen appearance since leading Washington to victory back in 2002. The Steelers had a bye, so former Ducks QB Dennis Dixon (left) was back as the teams honorary captain. And with Oregon recruiting Joe Montana's son, Nicholas, the former 49ers Golden Joe took in the Autzen scene.
On the second Oregon drive, Jeremiah Masoli put together a little dixon-esque stroll in for the 5-yarder as the Ducks drew first blood to go up 7 to nothing. In the second quarter, Masoli pulled the trigger on a 24-yarder to Oregon's leading receiver, Chris Harper, who layed out to make the catch and put the scoreboard up 14-zip Ducks at the half. The Bruins had not scored on the road all season until the 7:37 mark in the third quarter at Autzen when freshman Derrick Coleman made it a one touchdown game, 14-7. But Oregon got it right back after UCLA failed on an onside kick. The Ducks needed to go 37-yards in four plays, with LeGarrette Blount pushed the lead back to 14. UCLA came right back after an interception was nullified with a flag. On the very next play, Kahlil Bell barged in from the two to make it 21-14 Ducks at the end of three quarters. Jairus Byrd picked off a pass to Terrance Austin, putting the ball deep at the UCLA 16. The two sides traded field goals before Blount put together a big 69-yard touchdown, giving Bellotti just his second win against Neuheisel. Final score: 31-24. The Ducks starting quarterback Masoli was the game leading rusher, 17 yards on 24 totes. Only 46 yards passing for Oregon with five completions, but 328 yards on the ground. Oregon was 2-for-12 on third downs, but the defensive put the UCLA QB to the turf six times. |
