EUGENE, Ore. -- Following outcry from local voters and state politicians, Lane County announced on Wednesday they will pay to make sure every ballot makes it to the Elections office.

Ballots in Lane County for the November 2008 election require 59 cents of postage.  But some voters sent theirs out with 42 cent stamps.

Now, the Lane County Board of Commissioners has voted to cover the extra cost of postage.  They anticipate the cost will be around five thousand dollars.

However, the county still wants you to use 59 cents of postage.

"Please do put 42 cents because taxpayers are paying for it, regardless," said Annette Newingham, with the Elections Office.  "And they are required to put the full postage on it, but we are not going to return it for insufficient postage."
