Boy, 13, takes medical marijuana to school
By Associated PressASHLAND, Ore. (AP) -- A 13-year-old Ashland boy has been cited and suspended after he took some of his father's medical marijuana to his middle school. Police said the boy apparently took the drug from his father's bedroom and stashed it in a friend's locker at school overnight, when a janitor recognized the odor coming from the locker. Ashland deputy police chief Rich Walsh said the boy was cited for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school. Ashland Middle School officials declined to comment but said whenever the school's drug and alcohol policy is violated, the student is placed on 60-day in-school suspension, during which the student has no contact with peers for the first four weeks. Walsh said parents with medical marijuana should lock it up around the house. (Copyright 2008 The Associated Press.) |
