CALDWELL, Idaho - Two Corvallis, Ore., men have been arrested after an attempted bank robbery in Canyon County.

Authorities say two armed men went into the Wells Fargo at 5218 E. Cleveland in Caldwell and demanded money. The suspects, however, were caught in the act as an alarm alerted police. Caldwell Police arrived on scene before the suspects left the bank.

When they walked out, they surrendered.

Both robbers had been armed with handguns, which they left inside the bank prior to coming out and surrendering. The police department did not have contact with the robbers prior to their surrender.

The suspects, Jesus A. Mendoza, and Julio C. Gamez, have also been charged with kidnapping as they moved employees to another side of the bank during the robbery attempt.

Mendoza, 31, and Gamez, 27, are from Corvallis, Ore. and traveled to the area to commit the act, authorities say. Neither has any prior criminal history.
