Eugene girl reports online threat to Wash. school
KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) — Kennewick police say a threat about a school shooting made in an online adventure game led to the arrest of a Kamiakin High School student.
A 12-year-old girl playing the game from Eugene, Ore., alerted the safety department about the threat, said Sgt. Ken Lattin.
Lattin said the 14-year-old boy who made the threat was arrested at his Kennewick home on investigation of felony harassment after commenting online that he was planning a shooting at his school.
Lattin says detectives have no evidence the student had access to weapons or that he made any threats while at school.
In the Eugene/Springfield area of Oregon, a program born out of the shooting at Thurston High School in May 1998 encourages students to speak out about even the slightest threat of violence by other students.
