Mount Bachelor plans to open Sunday, Dec. 14, based on two winter storms in the forecast for Friday and Sunday. Bachelor hopes to open two lifts and some terrain and offer limited Nordic operations, too.

Willamette Pass requires 30 to 36 inches of non-compacted snow at the 6,000 foot level to open. As of Dec. 11, the ski area had less than 4 inches at 6,000 feet.

Some forecasts call for feet -- plural -- of snow in the Cascades this weekend. If that snow arrives as forecast, Willamette Pass could open for the season on Dec. 18.
