Actress gets prison for failing to pay taxes
By KVAL Web StaffEUGENE, Ore. -- An adult film actress who admitted failing to pay taxes was ordered to serve 6 months in prison and pay almost $300,000 in outstanding taxes.
James pleaded guilty in August 2008 to charges she failed to pay outstanding federal income taxes. From 2000 through 2006, James, while owing more than $200,000 in federal taxes, spent over $750,000 on homes, vehicles, furniture and a piano, while failing to voluntarily make any payments to the IRS. Those purchases included a home in Eugene, Ore. On Monday, United States Magistrate Judge Thomas Coffin ordered James to serve 6 months in federal prison, followed by one year of supervised release. As part of her post-prison supervised release, James must participate in a residential community corrections center for up to six months. In addition, James must pay all her outstanding taxes, which currently are about $294,000. James was ordered to report to prison on March 10, 2009. The Internal Revenue Service investigated the case. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Cardani. |
