SALEM, Ore. (AP) - There were no howls of protest, not even a yip.

The new state Capitol policy banning dogs took effect Friday, and included the governor's office.

There is an exception for service animals, and for special events.

But Hershey, the shepherd mix Gov. Ted Kulongoski brought to work from time to time, will have to spend time with the governor at home from now on.

The new policy follows a $34 million remodel of House and Senate offices.
