LEBANON, Ore. - A grandmother grieves after a search for her missing grandson turns tragic.

"I'm in shock kind of like everybody else," said Ruth Thacker. "It happened so fast... It's hard for the whole family."

The Skelton kids were playing hide-and-seek in a field near the intersection of South 9th Street and West 'C' Street Sunday morning when they stumbled upon the body of 14-year-old Quentin Thacker.

"We found his body right here," said 12-year-old Tyler Skelton. "His face was in the mud right here."

"I thought that it was fake," said 9-year-old Nathan Skelton.

Tyler Skelton told KVAL News it was a terrifying discovery.

Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller said they aren't sure how the boy died, but there are no obvious signs of trauma.

This isn't the first time tragedy has struck the Thacker family. Quentin's mom was killed by her boyfriend in a murder-suicide in Springfield two years ago. His grandfather died soon after. Ruth Thacker said Quentin was never the same, just as she won't be after his death.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. According to the sheriff's office, grief counselors will be on-hand at Lebanon High School when students go back to school on Tuesday.
