EUGENE, Ore. -- Snow closed Interstate 5 in two places between Grants Pass and the California border Wednesday morning.
I-5 also closed temporarily north of Grants Pass between mileposts 66 and 80 due to heavy snow, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Plows worked to clear the roadway, re-opening I-5 soutbound at milepost 80 around 9:15 a.m. Interstate 5 northbound re-opened at milepost 66 around 9:30 a.m.
Caltrans asked ODOT to hold traffic at milepost 14 at Ashland due to heavy snow in northern California between Mount Shasta and Yreka.
"Caltrans is concerned with overwhelming interstate services such as restaurants and motels in the Yreka area," said ODOT District Manager Jerry Marmon.
Jackson County Expo (fairgrounds) in Central Point at Exit 33 was open for truckers.
Interstate 5 at Ashland re-opened to traffic around noon. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and expect winter weather conditions along I-5 from Grants Pass to south of Yreka, California.
