Former Roseburg teacher lost leg in motorcycle wreck; suspect charged
By Dan Bain & Megan Sweeney KPIC NewsROSEBURG, Ore. -- Former Roseburg High School teacher John Granholm continues to recover in a Portland hospital after being hit while riding his motorcycle east of Oakland. Granholm lost a leg in the accident, but friends say he continues to make a recovery and will soon be transferred to a recovery center in Eugene. Granholm taught English at Roseburg High and was a member of the Vintage Singers. Granholm was also a piano tuner. Granholm taught music classes at Umpqua Community College. He was one of the main contributors to the Piano Technicians Journal, a publication of the Piano Technicians Guild. An account has been set up to help pay for the mounting medical bills. It's called the John Granholm Medical Fund, and contributions can be made at any Bank of America. They can also be sent in care of Paul Granholm at 746 Southeast Jackson Street in Roseburg. Billy Whitehead, who police say was driving the car that hit Granholm, is in court Thursday morning, facing charges of Assault, Reckless Driving, Failure to Perform he Duties of a Driver and Driving While Suspended. |
