PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A mild earthquake that shook the Portland metro area was felt by more than 2,000 people.

The Oregonian reports that the magnitude 2.6 quake was recorded at 9:34 p.m. Monday about 10 miles below the Laurelhurst neighborhood on the east side of the city.

"Weak shaking" was reported by more than 2,000 people on a "Did You Feel It" Web site operated at the University of Washington.

According to the Oregon Department of Geology & Mineral Industries, the earthquake did not occur on a known fault line.

But its location is near two similar sized earthquakes that have occurred in the past year and a half.
