UNEXPLORED OREGON: Hit the road
By Laura RillosOAKRIDGE, Ore.--Remember when your parents would throw you and your siblings in the backseat of the car and take a long drive? Maybe you enjoyed those trips. Maybe your annoying little brother ruined them for you. Either way, the long drive could be coming back in vogue this summer. Given the current economic climate, Brian McGinley with the USDA Forest Service said more people could be seeking free entertainment this summer. The Willamette National Forest has plenty to offer.
"Lots of great places to see. Off the beaten path type places," said McGinley. West Cascades Scenic Byway This beautiful drive will take you from Highway 58 to Highway 126, with many stopping points along the way. Directions: From Eugene: From Interstate 5, take Highway 126 east exit. Continue east to Blue River. The Byway starts after five miles. You can choose to turn south on Forest Road 19 or continue north on Highway 126. From South: From Interstate 5, take Highway 58 southeast. Just before Oakridge, turn north toward Westfir. The Byway starts. |
