CULDESAC – One man is dead and another was in critical condition following an officer-related shooting late Monday afternoon in Northern Idaho.

Juan Becerra, FBI spokesperson, says an Idaho State Police officer attempted to stop the two men for a traffic violation but the men eluded the officer and a high-speed chase ensued.

It ended at a residence on Cottonwood Creek Road just off of the Gifford-Reubens Road about 20 miles east of Lewiston. Becerra said it was there that a confrontation took place resulting in the use of deadly force by the ISP officer.

Becerra said that it was his understanding that the men shot were members of the Nez Perce Tribe. He said the FBI is investigating and that the names of the men will be released as soon as next of kin and family are notified.

Idaho State Police was not commenting on the shooting on Monday night.
