Student flashed, groped near the UO campus
By Elissa Harrington KVAL NewsEUGENE, Ore - Students at the University of Oregon are on alert. Over the past two weeks, three crimes have been reported in the University area involving U of O students. Last Monday, a student was allegedly flashed and grabbed near East 19th avenue and Harris Street. Wednesday, a student was held up at gunpoint and forced to withdraw money from an ATM. The latest happened Thursday. Around 11 p.m. a female member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority was followed, flashed, and groped. Carolyn McDermed, the Deputy Chief of the Department of Public Safety says it's possible this could be a trend. "With the weather being nicer there's more people around there's more people enjoying the weather outside at later times during the night because it's lighter out," she says. "It's unknown if these incidents are connected but they're certainly of concern." The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20's. He has blonde hair and a buzz cut. At the time of the incident he was wearing a blue baseball cap with a gray visor. He was also wearing a red plaid shirt, blue jeans and a blue jacket. Campus police say they have no leads. Students say they're playing it extra safe. Campus Safety sent an email to students asking them to walk in pairs, carry a charged cell phone and call police if in any danger. |
