EUGENE, Ore. --- Whether you experienced a rainstorm in Eugene, strong winds in Veneta, or a hailstorm in Marcola, it was definitely quite a day of wild weather.

"It looked like a hurricane," Bill Clark of Veneta said.

His home was without power since when the storm hit around two o'clock, to well into the evening.

While it was not technically a hurricane we did get pounded with some heavy rain, strong winds and even some hail in the Marcola area. Nearly every city surrounding Eugene and Springfield lost power at some point during the day. In Marcola, there was so much hail on the ground it looked like snow.

A tree also knocked down some cables on Marcola Road killing power to the area and blocking the road. Officials at the Emerald People's Utilities District said when they arrived at the scene someone else had already cut the tree in half, opening the road -- something they say can be deadly.

"People get killed all the time trying to be good citizens," Mark Raimer, an EPUD serviceman, said.

A fuse had blown up the road so the cables had no electric current..

Along Highway 126 towards Veneta many downed trees blocked the highway.  And in Veneta, the power was out for several hours affecting traffic lights, businesses and homes.

"My buddy goes, Oh my god look! That tree just went down!" Clark describes watching a monstrous tree fall down blocking the road and his neighbor's driveway.

"I am not sure what I think yet, I am still a little freaked out," Basham said. She came home from work to find a tree completely blocking her driveway. The tree pulled a cable down with it that was not electrical or dangerous.

"I'm glad nobody was like here, or nobody got hurt or anything," Michelle Basham said, "Now I just have to figure out who is going to come and get the tree."
