It's chainsaw sculpting time in Reedsport
REEDSPORT, Ore. - In just a few short days, giant Spruce logs will be turned into works of art during the 10th Annual Oregon Divisional Chainsaw Sculpting Championship.
Starting Thursday, 51 carvers from five different countries and seven states got to work creating sculptures from wood using a chainsaw.
"They turn these big logs into masterpieces. They take art to the extreme and they carve these incredible sculptures. They start Thursday morning, and they carve, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The final pieces are up for sale," says Joe Mirvis with the Reedsport Chamber of Commerce.
Each carver will also participate in a quick carve each morning, with those pieces being auctioned off each night.
Admission is $2 per day, which covers everything at the event, and Mirvis says it's worth it. "To watch the progression of this art happen where they start bucking out and cutting up these logs and all of the sudden you start seeing a sculpture take shape, that's what's so fascinating."
There will also be a boat and Corvette show and food vendors.
The event kicks off this Thursday and runs through Sunday at the Rainbow Plaza in downtown Reedsport.
