MONROE, Ore. -- A 200-pound statue of a dragon stolen from atop the steep-pitched roof of Monroe High School and later recovered from a Eugene man's basement will return to its perch at the end of the month.

Mark Fountain, the Veneta, Ore., artist who created the dragon, has completed repairs on the statue. Chuck Sieg from Sweet Home, Ore., is donating a crew and truck to put the dragon back in its place high atop Monroe High School on June 30 at 9 a.m.

In January, deputies arrested John Lawrence Crymes, 23, on suspicion of theft. Crymes later led deputies to the dragon, locked in a basement closet in his Polk Street home in Eugene, Ore., according to the sheriff.

The statue weighs about 200 pounds and is about 4 feet tall. It was located on top of a very steep pitched roof. In December, school officials said the mystery is as much how it was taken as who took it.
