BREMERTON, Wash. - Officers arrested a 49-year-old Bremerton man Wednesday after he allegedly tried to pay a woman to provide a girl for sex, police said.
Detectives launched an investigation in June after the woman came forward and told police that the suspect wanted her to find a 10- to 14-year-old girl to have sex with. The man said he was willing to pay $100 to the woman and also to the parent of the girl for the sex, police said. The woman engaged the man in further discussion about a fictitious 11-year-old girl and then contacted the police. Detectives arranged for the woman to have further conversations with the man, several of which were monitored, said Bremerton Police Sgt. Kevin Crane. The man allegedly described specific sex acts he wanted to engage in with the girl and also said that he could provide prescription medication to ease the girl’s pain and anxiety. Crane said the man also wanted to set up a meeting where the parent or the woman would have sexual contact with the girl to assure the man that the police were not involved. Ultimately, the woman and the suspect arranged a meeting at a local convenience store where he could meet the girl and find out what kind of sexual activities she would engage in. Police observed the man leaving his residence and took him into custody at the convenience store parking lot where the meeting was to take place. During an interview with detectives, the man admitted to having the conversations with the witness about sex with a 10- to 14-year-old girl and that he did have prescription medication in his residence as he described to the witness, police said. The man said he did not actually plan to go through with any sex acts this time, but did not know what he might do in a month, Crane said. Police said the man also admitted to having a sexual interest in children since 1996 and has searched computer web sites specifically for child pornography. Detective obtained a search warrant for the man’s home and seized a computer and hundreds of DVDs. The man was booked into the Kitsap County jail for investigation of criminal solicitation and conspiracy to commit first-degree child rape. Bail was set at $500,000. |
