Bank robber considered armed and dangerous

COOS BAY, Ore. -- A man who claimed to have a gun robbed the Wells Fargo Bank here Friday morning.

Police released surveillance images of the suspect and ask anyone who recognizes the man to contact police.

The suspect is considered to be armed and dangerous, and anyone recognizing the photo or description of the suspect is urged to contact Sergeant Chris Chapanar or Detective Scott Rogers of the Coos Bay Police Department at (541) 269-8911.

The investigation started at 9:35 a.m. Friday when a 911 caller reported a robbery had just occurred at the bank.

Coos Bay police responded to the location, and with the assistance of North Bend Police, established a perimeter. Coos Bay K-9 Unit “Niels” was deployed to search the area. Coos Bay Detectives were also called and responded to the scene.

The suspect was reported to have left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect claimed he had a gun, but no weapons were brandished and there were no reported injuries.

Witnesses report he was last seen traveling on foot, westbound on Commercial Avenue in Coos Bay.

The suspect is described as a 6-foot to 6-foot-2, approximately 180 to 200 pounds, age 30 to 40 with a tanned complexion, short hair and light facial hair. He had a tattoo on the back of his neck.
