Creswell man shot dead after apparent road rage incident
By Molly Blancett KVAL NewsCRESWELL, Ore. -- An apparent road rage incident turned deadly in Lane County on Saturday. It happened in Creswell at 258 Meadow Lane. According to the Lane County Sheriff's Office, Steven Thurston was shot in front of a house on Meadow Lane around 9:30. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Lisa Ledford lives across the street from where the man was shot. "I heard a gunshot and I came out my back door and I looked across the street and I saw a man fall and hit the ground," said Ledford. "... I heard him scream he was shot and dial 911. So I just immediately called 911." "The little girl had said that daddy's shot," said Arletta Snyder. Neighbors said the suspect then drove down the street to his own house on Cedar. "He took off real fast," said Snyder. Lane County Sheriff's deputies arrested him a short time later. Captain Bill Thompson said the motive could be a simple as speed. Neighbors said the victim had asked the suspect to slow down. "They were arguing about him going slower," said Snyder. Ledford said it's not the first time. "He's been asked to slow down when he's driving through this neighborhood," said Ledford. "I'm still shaking," said Ledford. "I'm just scared to death." The suspect is being held at the Lane County Jail on a preliminary charge of murder. His name has not been released. Oregon State Police are also investigating. |
