FLORENCE, Ore. -- After an hour playing the penny slots, a retired woman from Florence won a jackpot of over $1 million Friday night at her local casino.

The woman, who was not identitifed by Three Rivers Casino, was playing the $3 maximum on the penny slots when she hit the jackpot of $1,078,050.18.

The casino also saw a $5 million jackpot in March on progressive machines, slots linked electronically between multiple casinos. All told, the casino says customers have hit $7 million in big jackpots in the last five months.

Three Rivers COO Mike Rose theorized that a lot of locals throughout Lane County and surrounding areas are taking more “staycations” because of the economy and Florence is a great destination.
