CRESWELL, Ore. -- A Creswell man whose neighbor wanted him to drive slower through the neighborhood now faces charges he shot his critic dead on Saturday.

Jarrod Pardun, 28, of Creswell, Ore., is being held at the Lane County Jail on suspicion of intentional murder.

Investigators believe he shot and killed his neighbor, Steven Thurston, 59, on Saturday morning after an argument about Pardun's driving.

"I heard a gunshot and I came out my back door and I looked across the street and I saw a man fall and hit the ground," said Lisa Ledford, who lives across the street. "I heard him scream he was shot and dial 911. So I just immediately called 911."

Neighbors said Thurston had asked Pardun to drive slower through the neighborhood.

"He's been asked to slow down when he's driving through this neighborhood," said Ledford.

"They were arguing about him going slower," said neighbor Arletta Snyder.

After the 9:30 a.m. shooting, Thurston was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff's deputies arrested Pardun at his home.
