Eugene bicyclist's injuries prove fatal
EUGENE, Ore. -- A man who suffered what police called life-threatening injuries in a bicycle crash Monday died Wednesday.
Marcellus Tryk, 47, also known as Donald Tryk, had been listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit at RiverBend Hospital as recently as Wednesday morning.
The hospital confirmed Wednesday night that Tryk had died.
Tryk suffered severe injuries in a bicycle crash Monday around 11:45 a.m. on W. 17th Avenue in Eugene, Ore.
"The belief is maybe he was startled by or avoiding the car door," said Jenna LaBounty with the Eugene Police Department. "There were no witnesses other than the driver and the bicyclist."
LaBounty said there was no apparent damage to the bicycle or car. The investigation remains open, but forensic accident reconstructionists were not called to the scene because of the lack of forensic evidence left by a single-bicycle crash. LaBounty said the bicycle and the car did not appear to have made contact.
Tryk was not wearing a helmet, according to police.
