Crash on small child's motorcycle kills man

RIDDLE, Ore. -- A man died Wednesday after he crashed a small child's motorcycle into a ditch without a helmet on and was thrown from the bike, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Richard Jenkins, 30, of White City, Ore., suffered severe head injuries in the crash and died later at the hospital.

Jenkins and his wife were in Riddle, Ore., visiting family on Newcomb Lane in Riddle, Ore.

Jenkins took a small children's motorcycle for a drive and crashed when he failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle hit a ditch, and Jenkins was thrown off the bike.

He was not wearing a helmet.

When he didn't return from the ride, family members went searching for him and discovered he had wrecked.

Police responded to the scene at 9 p.m. Wednesday. Medical personnel were already on scene loading Jenkins into an ambulance.

The case is still under investigation.

Dwes Hutson with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said investigating deputies could not locate a make and model on the motorcycle. They believe it has a small engine around 25ccs and may have been built from a kit.
