VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Congressman Brian Baird of Vancouver tells KATU News that a death threat came by fax on Friday. This is the same day KATU reported that the congressman planned to do town hall meetings on the phone.

The congressman didn't say he was specifically worried about his safety. However, he said the threats coming into his office are enough to keep town hall meetings on the phone for the near term.

Baird said that his initial reason for phone-in town hall meetings was to keep people from breaking out into shouting matches to interrupt discussions on health care. Throughout the week similar events have happened in other states.
