State gives mayor's mom until Aug. 26 to respond
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Elections Division has given the mother of congressional candidate Sid Leiken an additional two weeks to provide documents requested as part of a state investigation.
Leiken, the mayor of Springfield, is seeking the Republican nomination to run for U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio's 4th congressional district seat.
Democratic Party officials complained in June that a $2,000 payment from Leiken's mayoral campaign committee went to a polling firm not registered to do business in Oregon. The firm is owned by Glenda Leiken, the mayor's mother.
In its letter to Glenda Leiken, the elections division reminded her that she had not submitted the documentation by an Aug. 12 deadline and told her to send it by Aug. 26.
