Ashland: Is going nude near schools rude or lewd?
ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Ashland City Council is considering whether to expand the city's ban on nudity to include areas near schools.
The state doesn't regulate nudity in public, but local jurisdictions are allowed to set restrictions. Five years ago, the council adopted an ordinance to ban the display of genitals in parks and downtown.
The issue of public nudity flared last year, when Jennifer Moss started bicycling around town wearing only a G-string.
Earlier this summer, Tony Cooper's nude strolls upset some people, especially when he would walk nude by an elementary school. Moss and Cooper arrived from California and have since left Ashland.
At Tuesday's meeting the council will decide whether to take no action or direct staff to draft changes to the existing ordinance for a future vote.
