ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A scheduled hearing for arraignment of a Drain man was cancelled in Douglas County Circuit Court Monday morning.

Former North Douglas basketball coach and Cottage Grove High School teacher Shane Mast was to be arraigned Monday morning on misdemeanor sex abuse charges.

Mast's attorney, David Terry of Roseburg, said the hearing was cancelled because they filed a notice of representation.

Terry said Mast is charged with only a single misdemeanor sex abuse charge, but they expect more to be filed in the near future.

"Shane Mast is not guilty of any of this and has experienced a tremendous amount of support from educators, community members and even law enforcement," Terry told KPIC News in Roseburg.  "Mast is a tremendous teacher and community member."

Terry is not sure when the next hearing will take place, but he says it depends on if and when other charges may be filed.
